It Don' Mean A Thing (Spice Of Life)
Hod is without a doubt one of the great jazz pianists of our time, but he's only gotten the recognition he deserves within the last decade or so. Over the years, he's played with people like Art Farmer, Stan Getz, and Donald Byrd, and he was only 21 when he replaced Bill Evans in Oscar Pettiford's quintet. Hod O'Brien, who turned 75 in January 2011, is a living legend and one of the best bebop pianists working today. His strong touch and sense of swing invigorate every tune he plays. On his fourth album for Spice of Life, O'Brien, a Virginia resident, is joined by Michael Hawkins on bass and Billy Williams on drums. Guest singer and O'brien's wife, Stephanie Nakasian, contributes her vocal talent to five tracks. A fun-filled, groovy jazz album!
